How to Windows SharePoint Services uses Active Directory

Today I am going to add a new lesson in Microsoft Office Support bolg How to Windows SharePoint Services uses Active Directiory. If your Web site is hosted by an ISP and Windows SharePoint Services uses Active Directory account creation mode. If your Web site is hosted by an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and Windows SharePoint Services was installed by using Active Directory account creation mode, you experience the symptoms that are described in the "Symptoms" section when you try to create a list in a subsite. To work around this problem, create a new list that is based on the Excel workbook that is located in the root site, save the list as a list template, and then create the list that you want in the subsite from the new list template that you created.

Follow these steps to do it:

1. In the root site, create a new list that is based on the Excel workbook. To do so, follow these steps:
a. On the home page of the root site, click Create.
b. On the Create page, under Custom Lists, click Import Spreadsheet.
c. Specify the options that you want, and then click Import.
d. In the Import to Windows SharePoint Services list dialog box, click the range of cells that you want to use for your list, and then click Import.
e. Specify the columns and the rows that you want to import, and then click Import.
2. In the root site, save the new list that you created as a list template. To do so, follow these steps:
. In the root site, click Documents and Lists.
a. Click the link to the list that you want to save as a template.
b. Click Modify settings and columns.
c. On the Customize ListName page, under General Settings, click Save list as template.
d. In the File name box, type the file name that you want to use for the template file.
e. In the Template title box, type the title that you want to use for the template.
f. Click to select the Include content check box.
g. Click OK.
3. Connect to the subsite, and then create a new list that is based on the new list template that you created in step 2. To do so, follow these steps:
. Connect to the subsite, and then click Create.
a. Click the template that you created in step 2.
b. On the New List page, specify a name and a description for the list, and then click Create.

Microsoft gets behind Open Document Format, Office update in 2009

Microsoft announced it would put its full support and weight behind the OASIS Open Document Format (ODF) version 1.1 support, adding it to Microsoft Office 2007 with the upcoming service pack 2 due out in 2009. Open XML will also be integrated in the coming weeks.

Microsoft has released a developer's guide on how to implement ODF and Open XML via interoperability with Microsoft and other products. They will also be "an active participant in the evolution of ODF, Open XML, XML Paper Specification and PDF standards." They further state having "already made contributions to ODF in OASIS and is actively participating in the maintenance of Open XML in ISO/IEC."

Microsoft does caveat their full acceptance of the standards body governing ODF, however. They state, "1) When implementing a standard, an implementer may find the text ambiguous or more permissive than is appropriate for that particular implementation," and "2) File format standards typically allow additional application-specific information (such as certain user customizations) to be written to the file," and "3) With every application there may be instances where an implementer cannot follow the standard exactly for one reason or another. For example, general industry practice may differ from what is in the specification or users may have made clear that they need something different," according to the press release. This means Microsoft may still introduce Microsoft-specific variations to the ODF standard, being the bane of the open standards idea.

Some cell borders do not print in Excel 2004 for Mac

This session discuss about Microsoft Excel Support 2004 for MAC. When you print a worksheet in Microsoft Excel 2004 for Mac, you may notice that the printed version does not match what you see on the screen. Cell borders that use double, thin dash-dot-dot, and thin dash-dot patterns do not print.

This error occurs when print quality is not set normal.

To fix this problem, set the print quality to High. To change the print quality, follow these steps:

  1. Click Page Setup on the File menu.
  2. In the Print quality list, click High.

Microsoft Releases Office 2008 12.1.5 and Office 2004 11.5.3 Updates

Microsoft has once again updated Office 2008 and 2004, this time fixing two notable security issues, improving general stability, and addressing a number of bugs. It's nice to see both continued support for Office 2004, and continued attention to providing detailed release notes.

According to Microsoft's Web site each update, "contains several improvements to enhance stability, compatibility, and performance. In addition, this update includes fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer's memory with malicious code."

Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.5 Update weighs in at 103.6 MB and addresses security vulnerabilities and increases stability and reliability throughout the suite of Office applications. The update also provides specific performance improvements for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Entourage. A full list of improvements is included on Microsoft's update description page.

Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.3 Update weighs in at 15.1 MB and addresses stability issues when opening and closing documents in Word and Excel. Finally, Microsoft released Open XML File Format Converter for Mac 1.0.2, which fixes security vulnerabilities in Microsoft's conversion software that enables Office 2004 and v. How to Querying a Web Page in Excel 2003

How to Querying a web page in Excel 2003? In addition to querying Excel workbooks, Access and other database applications, you can also extract dynamic data from a Web page using an Excel query. Querying a Web page in Excel 2003 is a great option if you plan to take out data from a source repetitively.
To create an Excel query that uses a Web page as a data source, you'll need to find the correct URL of the Web page from which you want to retrieve data. Excel 2003 has limited browser capabilities, so you'll need to use a genuine browser to access the Web page you want to query. Copy the complete URL to the clipboard.
Open the worksheet that will receive the queried data. Choose Data > Import External Data > New Web Query. Excel 2003 will open the New Web Query dialogue box. The New Web Query dialogue box will open with your browser's default home page. Paste the URL from the clipboard into the location bar at the top of the New Web Query dialogue box. Click Go, to the right of the location bar.
Excel will carry up the tables available on the Web page you've selected, displayed with a yellow arrow to the left of each available table. To select the table, click the arrow. The yellow arrow will turn into a green check mark. To deselect a table, toggle the green check mark. When it is deselected, it will revert to the yellow arrow symbol. Once you have selected your desired table(s), click the Import button at the bottom of the dialogue box.
When your Web query is complete, Excel will present the Import Data dialogue box. To place data in a spreadsheet click an available cell and click OK. The imported data will appear in the active spreadsheet.
When querying a Web page in Excel 2003, Excel will not preserve the formatting you've applied to data imported from the Web, so each time you run the query, all of your formatting preferences will be lost. You'll also be presented with the External Data toolbar, so you can refresh your data as often as you'd like.
