How to Find Email Headers in Outlook 2010

Now that the Beta version of Microsoft Office 2010 is available for public download there are a few changes you may need to know about to help protect your computer and your identity. While many up to date email programs are excellent at spotting phishing emails, there are a few that can sneak by and find their way to your inbox. Follow these easy steps to view and verify the origin of emails by inspecting the internet headers.

  1. Step 1

    Double click on the desired message to open it in a new window.

  2. Step 2
    Click Options
    Click Options

    Click the options expander button at the top right hand section of the message navigation screen. This will open a new window with message settings and the internet headers.

  3. Step 3
    Look for the
    Look for the "Return-Path:" field

    Check the internet headers box for details about the email. In this screen you can see the e-mail any replies will be sent to along with where that email will actually go. The destination of the message is in the "internet headers" pane called "Return-Path:"
