Removing MS Office Error 1316

When you are trying to set up Microsoft Office XP on your computer, you may encounter an error message that tells you that you need to insert the installation disc for the current Office 2000 version you have installed on your computer. After inserting the Office 2000 CD you will see a second error message, Error 1316, that tells you that the setup cannot proceed. This error can easily be corrected by using the installation disc for the 2000 version of Office.

* Microsoft Office XP installation CD
* Microsoft Office 2000 installation CD

Steps to Fix 1316 Error

1. Insert the Microsoft Office XP installation CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer. Click on the "Start" button from your desktop and then click on the "My Computer" option.

2. Locate your CD drive in the My Computer folder and then double-click on the drive. Click on the setup file and an installation dialog box will pop up on your screen.

3. Wait for the error message to appear that tells you to insert the Microsoft Office edition disk. Click on the "OK" button and remove the Microsoft Office XP disk from your computer.

4. Insert the Microsoft Office 2000 installation CD into your CD-ROM drive. The Error 1316 message will then appear.

5. Eject the Microsoft Office 2000 CD and insert the Microsoft Office XP CD back into your CD-ROM drive. Click on the "Retry" button and the problem will be resolved.
